Trip to Helvtica

So here is a run down of the Toronto Event.

The line up was really long really early, lucky for us Emma noticed and waited there while we all trickled over and were the biggest assholes of the event cause there were like 10 of us cramming into Emma's zone. Then there was a guy handing out "ban arial" flyer's and another guy from the Shinn family handing out their type foundries catalogue in the line up. Also the line up for the rush tickets was super long.

So we all made it into the theatre and got ready for the movie event of a lifetime. Anthony was like a 5 year old who just learned how to say his first swear word and could not stop. When he sat in his seat he noticed that they slightly reclined and he kept wiggling round hitting knees behind him everywhere. The director introduced the film. Then the magic began. An excited fan at the beginning cheered massimo vignelli when he appeared on screen, and we were off into the nerdiest but most awesome movie ever. It was like we were at a star trek convention and all huge trekkies. The laughs in the film were plentiful, even though you felt like the biggest nerd to find comments like "Helvetica started the Vietnam war" funny.

At the end the crowed cheered and there was a question and answer with the director, which was actually kinda lame, like not many interesting questions were asked. oh well.

then our trip took us over to Ted's collision to finish the night. There was a Don McKeller sighting and pizza eating apres ted's.

good times were had by all.

I can't speak for everyone, but i thoroughly enjoyed the film and will try to force by any means necessary to get all my non design friends to watch it.

this movie was amazing... so, who is for or against the use of Helvetica?

I was on the fence before, and after the movie, I'm still on the fence. Besides all the cultural and political baggage, I can't really decide if it's dated or classic.
